November 2005, Issue No. 35 ~ Magic, Healing, and the Unexpected

On a warm November evening this month, our friend Karen invited 25 friends over to celebrate her 50th birthday. While we all brought her gifts, she gifted us with great food, drink and a didjeridoo player (named Harold). The didj is an ancient aboriginal instrument, a tree branch whose center has been hollowed out by insects. Each didjeridoo has one note, which the musician manipulates to evoke a variety of sounds, such as a deep meditative Ommm sound.

During the course of the evening, Harold played the instrument just inches in front of each guest's heart charka. Wow! Talk about vibrational healing. Later in the evening, we gathered outside around a fire pit where we continued to be mesmerized by Harold's stories, chanting and didj playing. This magical evening reminded me that healing takes on many forms and can present itself in the most unexpected times and places.
