Remodel Your Home: Grounding and Purification Ceremony
by Deborah Redfern

This is the time of year when many people begin (or begin to contemplate) doing work around the home. Whether it is a spring-spruce up with new paint/wallpaper, or full scale renovations you are thinking of, one thing is for certain: it will change the energy in your home.

Areas of your home that are being worked on may feel ungrounded or even unconnected to the rest of your home. While we look forward to the new energy and envision the finished project, there is always a period of upheaval while the work is being done. Here are some suggestions you can implement to ensure the work goes smoothly, is completed on schedule, within budget, and with as little disruption as possible.

Begin with the end in mind by creating a Vision Seed Map.
Have you formulated a picture in your mind of what your home will look like when the work is finished? The work will come closer to meeting your expectations if you know exactly what changes you planning to make. The more specific you get the better. For example, you wouldn't send someone out for a can of green paint without knowing exactly what shade of green. Even after you've chosen the shade of green you might want to do a test square to see how the lighting in the home changes the colour and how it will harmonize with the other colours in the home.

Bless your home remodel plans by incorporating them into a Vision Seed Map. Begin by gathering together details of your renovation, such as pictures you've clipped from magazines, fabric and paint swatches, building materials you plan to use, architectural drawings, even contractor's estimates and business cards. See this page for details on how to create a Vision Seed Map.

Include words and images of how you want to feel in your new space when the work is complete. If you are doing painting, you can incorporate those words into your actual living space by putting them on the wall with your prime coat of paint. I have painted the words and symbols I've chosen on my walls, but you could use pen or marker - just make sure that the final coat of paint will cover them. Even though the words are covered by the paint, their energetic vibration will continue on.

A Space Clearing ceremony uplifts the energy in a home.
It consists of four steps:
1) Physical preparation
2) Spiritual preparation by creating a blessing altar
3) Clearing the energy
4) Preserving the energy.
You can use your Vision Seed map on the blessing altar.

As part of your blessing altar and spiritual preparation, consider doing the Unification and Grounding Ceremony. It is a powerful ceremony that grounds the energy and symbolically connects all areas of your home together.

Unification and Grounding Ceremony

What you will need:
Cork bulletin board or something similar, straight pins, thumb tacks or map pins, red thread, string or yarn, a different colour of thread, string or yarn.
  • Draw the floor plan of your house (a birds-eye view). See the resource section for instructions on how to do this.
  • Lay the drawing on the cork board.
  • Place the pins/tacks at each of the outside corners of the house, and each of the rooms.
  • Tie the red thread/yarn/string to the area closest your front door and wind the thread around each of the pins, thereby energetically connecting each room to the others. Make a complete circuit, ending back at the pin nearest your front door.
  • Take your different coloured thread and surround the entire house with the intent that "all the energy is connected/all the energy is grounded."
  • Let this sit for 24 hours. At the end of the 24 hours, remove all of the pins and roll the drawing up, with the thread still inside. Burn the floor plan in your fireplace or outdoors, and take the ashes and scatter in a circle around your house.
No Fireplace?
An outdoor fire-pit, the barbeque, or a chimenea work just as well. Depending on the size of your floor plan, you can usually (carefully) burn small pieces of paper in a bathroom sink or bath tub (there often aren't smoke detectors in bathrooms). If you plan to burn your drawing this way, make it a small one.

If burning your drawing is not an option, bury the drawing in a plant pot (lay it in the bottom of the pot and fill with potting soil and the plant) or bury it in the garden.

The pins can be re-used. Leave them out in the sun for a few hours to cleanse them.

Some Home Blessings

God/Goddess/All that is,
Bless the corners of this house,
And be the lentil blest;
And bless the hearth and bless the board
And bless each place of rest;
And bless each door that opens wide
To stranger as to kin;
And bless each crystal window pane
That lets the starlight in;

And bless the rooftree overhead,
And every sturdy wall,
The peace of man/woman, the peace of God/Goddess
The peace of love on all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear God/Goddess/All that is,
Swing the doors of our home wide
so all people will feel welcome and loved.
May the floor and walls
be strong enough to carry the
burdens of those who come.
We pray
no one leaves feeling
less than when he entered.
May your
love and peace cover
and protect as each one departs.
Amen
